We are always in a rush. It seems we are constantly on the move, forever multi-tasking, and regularly cutting one commitment short just to arrive late to the next. A friend pointed out to us somewhere along the way that even if we win the “rat race”, we’re still all rats. Her comment made us slow down to ask, ‘what does bring meaning to our lives?’

At that point we’d been married six years. We were happy. We had degrees and good jobs and plans for a family. Three sons and seven years down the road, our lives are as hectic as ever, but there is a new meaning to our lives that didn’t exist before. There is a sense of enjoying the journey with a purposeful goal in mind now.  The difference for us has been more than just becoming parents. The dramatic distinction for us has been the way God has moved to the center of our lives. That isn’t something we did on our own.

When we first visited Lover’s Lane Church, we weren’t looking for a dramatic change to our way of life. We were expecting our first child and looking for a place that would inspire us to our best and provide a nurturing environment for our child. God met us there with so much more! We were challenged and inspired by the message we heard and saw being applied in people’s lives. We found a welcoming community that nurtured us both as parents and as human beings. People there reaffirmed to us that our lives had meaning to God and to the people at Lovers Lane. We found a place where our boys could come and hear about how special they are to God and learn how to live lives of character. We discovered a heartfelt desire to reach out to people who needed help through the many opportunities at Lovers Lane. Significantly, we found a peace in the midst of the chaos of our lives – something that just wouldn’t exist without God.

We don’t feel like we are part of the rat race anymore. We know that God created us to be so much more than that. Though we are still a work in progress, Lover’s Lane has helped us connect with God’s purpose and meaning for our lives.
