YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD |
Graduating from college brought many changes to my life. My friends were scattering all over the country. My long-term relationship had just broken up. I was moving to Dallas and starting a new job. I felt lonely. Everything in my life seemed to be in flux at the same time. I wondered if I would ever get rid of the nagging unsettledness and uncertainty that I had in my life. Where was I going to find a new group of friends? I missed having a relationship and the comfort that came with it. Stability in my parents lives had always come from their church relationship. I did not know if I would be able to establish my life in the same way they had. Looking for a place to fit in, I decided to visit some churches in the area. I did not connect with any of them. Then I visited Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. I was surprised to find warmth there, people who not only cared about me but appreciated me as an individual. I met several people who invited me to lunch and introduced me to some of their friends. They made me feel like I was not alone any more. They even invited me to get more involved and to go to Honduras with them to help people who were devastated by floods there. I felt like I made a difference, a contribution to that tiny community in Honduras. Lovers Lane helped me find other ways to help people, not just in foreign countries but right here in Dallas. The more I tried to help others, the more I realized that my difficulties seemed to fade away. Lovers Lane helped me to understand that I could change the world, and it changed me at the same time. I still have my share of problems, but I never have to face them alone. Lovers Lane Church let me know that my life had real meaning. We would love to hear from you! <Click here
